Cebu accessories

By 1987, the rest of my family migrated to Australia (my two older brothers went there in 1981). I worked for my brother who partly owns a furniture-importing business. He imported rattan furniture from Cebu. There I experienced the western-style working environment, the extremely high-demands of the customers, their expectations, varied tastes, quality requirements and many others.

With these inputs, I started to have the confidence to design my own
Cebu furniture pieces. I research a lot and take a good observation in everything around me. I take inspiration from natural and man-made objects no matter how unimportant it may seem for others. I believe nature has provided us with so many examples that we could apply on things that we want to create. Nature fascinates me. I can describe my designs as montage of the things that I have seen and/or experienced in the past. I select elements that I like and put them together in a new piece. The basic elements are almost all the time the same. Since I had experienced the very basic steps in furniture making, my designs are made with maker and user in mind.

For me, a truly well designed object is something that serves its purpose and accessible by many. Not just limited few. I love to see my designs being enjoyed by other people and the good response I get from them. It is such a nice feeling. Normally, in my factory I spend some of my time taking part in the production process. This can improve myself and my people to this craft that we have chosen. We learn new things everyday and want to learn more. We take the good things from the past and eliminate the bad ones. I think and I remind my people most of the time, that we can only get respect we deserve if we are true to ourselves and our craft. Only then, we can call ourselves proudly, craftsman and craftswoman.

Rattan making here in
Cebu Philippines is taught from generations to generations. In this Philippine furniture exhibition, rattan products are introduced to the buyers. The Cebu design of these products are very elegant and extraordinary in which it attracts Philippine traders and Cebu organizers. These are some of the Cebu accessories that the Cebu exhibition how to the international buyers.
